A Year-End Reflection on Nonprofit Marketing

A Year-End Reflection on Nonprofit Marketing

I’ve covered a lot of nonprofit marketing topics in my newsletters this year.

How segmentation can improve your email marketing engagement…

Ideas for social media content aligned with your mission…

Special events you can host to build community connections…

And the metrics you need to track to see progress.

Now, as I reflect on the past 12 months, I’m reminded of just how much effort goes into nonprofit marketing and why it’s so important.

The reality behind why this matters?

Because you never know where someone’s first impression of your organization will happen.

Maybe a prospective donor stumbles upon your organization’s website, or a future volunteer sees a Reel you put out on Instagram.

You can’t pick and choose how someone first connects with your organization, so you need to be consistent across any and every platform.

And that’s why nonprofit marketing matters.

Messaging, branding, testimonials, stories, statistics… they’re all integral parts of creating a united marketing front for your nonprofit.

But I know that’s sometimes easier said than done.

Keeping up with trends, staying on top of best practices, focusing on strategy, and doing everything else you need to in your nonprofit position is not easy.

Then, the internal questions (and overwhelm) start to roll in:

  • “Are hashtags still a thing?”
  • “Should I start posting on TikTok?”
  • “What day should I send our newsletter?”

Sound familiar?

That’s why I created this newsletter

My goal with “Clever Ideas for Nonprofits” is simple:

I want to help you work through your nonprofit marketing questions so you can refocus on what’s actually important.

Every two weeks, I share quick, easy things you can do to move the needle on your marketing — because I know that not every nonprofit has a fully staffed marketing department (or any marketing department!) to lean on.

So, if there’s a topic you’re interested in, or a marketing question that’s been bugging you for ages, hit reply and let me know.

And who knows? Maybe I’ll even do a newsletter about it in the future!

A reminder from me to you

You may have heard this from me before, but I want to reiterate how much I love working with nonprofits and community-based organizations.

The impact and resiliency of these organizations never fail to amaze me.

Budgets get cut, grant funding is questionable, teams are short-staffed…

And yet somehow, some way, nonprofit leaders are still getting the work done and making a difference, every single day.

So, as we close out the last newsletter of 2025, I want to thank you for your hard work and dedication.

Enjoy the holidays with your friends and family, and make time to take care of yourself, too.

I hope you’ll spend some of your downtime relaxing and reflecting on what you’ve accomplished this year.

All the best,

Catrina

Why Sharing Social Media Tasks Isn't as Helpful As You Think In the nonprofit world, it’s not uncommon to see multiple people sharing social media marketing responsibilities.
